Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
Four levels of cover. Choose before you pick up the car.
CDW is not car insurance in the legal sense. It is an option by which the rental company waives its claim against the driver in the event of collision damage - as long as the damage was not caused by gross negligence or a breach of the rental agreement.
At vehicle pick-up you choose one of four levels. Your choice determines the credit-card pre-authorisation amount (excess) and which components are covered.
Regular vehicles (Toyota Hilux, Fortuner, Land Cruiser 2.8 Double Cab)

What CDW does not cover

- close Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- close Driving without a valid licence
- close Reckless conduct or gross negligence
- close Speed violations (80 km/h gravel, 120 km/h tarred)
- close Water damage (river crossings)
- close Night driving on long-distance roads (7 PM – 6 AM)
- close Vehicle overturned: N$165,000 (Hilux/Fortuner) / N$205,000 (LC)
- close Restricted routes: N$10,000 penalty

- remove Camping equipment, tents, awnings, sliding drawers

flag Cross-border travel
Travel to South Africa (Cape Town only) or Botswana (Kasane, Kazungula, Maun) requires either CDW Option 4 or payment of an amount equal to the credit-card pre-authorisation (refunded on undamaged return).
For accidents or theft outside Namibia an additional 20% administration fee applies on top of all costs.
